TIPPER OF THE WEEK: PIPPA BROWN

This week we continue our latest feature on the Tipping Point, spotlighting the biggest and best emerging acts from across the UK. Each Monday, we ask one of our esteemed tippers to select five of their hottest tips to be featured on the site throughout the week.

Today we introduce producer Pippa Brown. Pippa works at independent production company Folded Wing as an Assistant Producer across multiple shows. Mainly BBC Music Introducing with Gemma Bradley, Introducing Dance with Jaguar, both on BBC Radio 1, and Selector Radio with Jamz Supernova for the British Council. She found radio through her love of music and uses this as the foundation of all the shows she works on. Check out her picks below!

LEX AMOR

Jamz interviewed her for Selector Radio, and she spoke with such clarity and passion which oozes out of her music too. Her latest release is with Wu-Lo, another artist I think is levelling up with his music at the moment. Their track ‘South’ is a heavy funk-driven track that I LOVE.

HOME COUNTIES

Their track ‘Modern Yuppies’ was my first introduction to this band, and it screamed Talking Heads at me, which personally can only be a good thing. Then going on to find ‘Dad Bod’ from last year, the re-workings of that single, and discovering they release with one of the best Indie labels, Alcopop! Records, tick tick tick.

THE LOUNGE SOCIETY

It was inevitable I was going to choose some people who are involved with Dan Carey and the Speedy Wunderground crew, inarguably the best singles label ever. I haven’t been able to see ANY of this list of artists live, which pains me as gigs are my happy place, but these guys in particular I am very much looking forward to seeing in a live setting.

MAUV

‘Pillow Talk’ is an absolute BOP and I’ve heard theres a whole album of work ready, yes please. It’s thanks to the Introducing Uploader that I heard about this one, if you’re making music get it up there so I can hear it and play it. Thanks.

NAYANA IZ

She’s part of that super talented Nine8 Collective, alongside Lava La Rue and Biig Piig, and has gone on to make stunning music of her own – check her SMOKE & FLY EP. She did a really honest interview for Selector with me, talking about her heritage and childhood and it was so refreshing to hear. She’s another one I cannot wait to see live, but to be honest I’d pay a lot to watch someone play a broken Keytar right now…
