This week we continue our latest feature on the Tipping Point, spotlighting the biggest and best emerging acts from across the UK. Each Monday, we ask one of our esteemed tippers to select five of their hottest tips to be featured on the site throughout the week.
Next up we have Matt Brown who runs Stay Loose in Bristol. Stay Loose manage Daughter, Ex:Re & Wilsen as well as running PR campaigns for Novo Amor, Ghostpoet, Agnes Obel, Charlie Cunningham, The Barr Brothers and more. Matt is also a co-founder of Dalliance Recs with Rich Walker from 4AD which is releasing records by Gia Margaret & Common Holly in 2019. Check out Matt’s tips below!
HERBAL TEA
We invited Helena to support Ex:Re at Union Chapel earlier this year. She’s fantastic. Bedroom recordings full of heart and soul. ‘Kitchen Floor (4am)’ is one of my favourite songs of the year.
CAMILLE CHRISTEL
I first heard Camille on Mary Anne Hobbs’ late night Recommends show on 6 Music. It’s a great place to discover quality new music. I went back and played the track – ‘New York’ – about a dozen times in a row. I then travelled up to see Camille play in Nottingham pretty much immediately and was blown away. It’s intense and extremely atmospheric. She’s got some beautiful songs. We’re lucky enough to be putting Camille’s debut EP out via Dalliance.
PET SHIMMERS
An 8-headed Bristol super-group of sorts. Warm and substantial musical goodness that showcases West Country psych-pop at it’s very best.
FRIEDBERG
Quartet based in London, but with roots in Austria. Hooky desert-rock. ‘BOOM’ is the stand-out track so far.
SOEUR
Best new live band I’ve seen in the past few years. Heavy and uncompromising but with this tight melodic thread running through everything that’s pure gold. Have earned their stripes from constantly touring in the UK and it’s beginning to reap dividends.
