Google Plays Songza

Its been confirmed that Google has bought playlist site Songza to enhance its Google Play Music All Access subscription service.

A New York Post report last month tipped the service to be worth $15m but it’s thought that the deal may have actually been worth just under $40m according to CMU.

Launched in 2010, Songza is a streaming site that specialises in curated playlists from ‘experts’ based on surroundings, mood, weather, type of yoga you are doing at the time etc… So, it will essentially give Google Play that ‘human’ element much touted by the likes of Beats and DeezerThe Gen has a feeling that the purchase is not entirely unrelated to the imminent death star launch of YouTube’s music subscription service.
