Our flagship music festival, Evolution Emerging, is undergoing a transformation and is coming back as Tipping Point Live - bigger, better, and fresher than ever!

After 10 successful years of unearthing and showcasing some of the region’s leading artists, our Evolution Emerging Festival is set to re-launch this year under a new name and a revamped outlook.

Taking place on Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd June 2019, the celebrated event which has previously paved the way for many of the region’s break-through artists will now be known as Tipping Point Live as part of our drive to diversify and open doors to new genres of music and audiences.

The event will remain in its spiritual home of the Ouseburn Valley, however in a bold move to expand the festival offering it will now take place across two full days with a full programme of live music, music industry masterclasses and conversations, film screenings, exciting food offers and bespoke family focused events for music lovers with young children

As usual all North East based emerging artists are invited to apply to play the festival but in an exciting development for Generator and the event, this year successful artists will be chosen by a panel of high-profile industry curators. We will welcome applications from original bands, musical artists, producers and songwriters working in the following genres: Electronic, Alternative, Rock and alternative Rock, Jazz, Folk, Urban and Pop.

Applications will open on Friday 1st February here with applications closing at midnight on Sunday 3rd March

Speaking about Tipping Point Live, Festival Organiser, Charlie Dancer, said: “We’ve had 10 successful years as Evolution Emerging but now it’s time for a change. Say hello to Tipping Point Live!

“The North East’s flagship event for new music isn’t ending, it’s growing.

“We’re still going to host the festival in the heart of the Ouseburn Valley and we will be keeping everything you loved before; the new festival will continue to showcase a selection of the best new music from the region and beyond.

“That said, Tipping Point Live will be bigger, brighter, fresher, and more diverse than Evolution Emerging and we can’t wait to announce our line-up and programme soon.”

Tipping Point Live will be more closely connected with our music talent development programme, Tipping Point, which supports emerging artists to build sustainable creative careers and lives connected to music.

Renowned and respected nationally for championing the best new music from the North East, Tipping Point supports emerging artists to build sustainable creative careers and lives connected to music.

Generator CEO, Jim Mawdsley, adds: “As much as I love everything to do with the Evolution brand, and what it has meant to music in the North East, it is time to say goodbye.

“It’s time to build on our successful Tipping Point music development brand and produce a new festival that reflects the diversity of content and talent development we produce at Generator.

“It will definitely be a bigger and better festival of North East talent and this event will provide a celebration that it deserves.”

In the last 12 months alone, Tipping Point has brought a range of highly influential artists to the region including Everything Everything, Nadine Shah and Anna Meredith.
