Music and Business Support Agency Generator Strengthens Team With Two New Appointments

NEWCASTLE-BASED music and business support agency Generator is delighted to announce that they have expanded their team with two recent new appointments to support their senior management team and events programme.

New additions include Nick Sheffield, who joins Generator as Creative & Digital Programme Manager, bringing over 20 years of experience in the music and tech industries

“I started as a freelance web developer in the late ‘90s, and around the same time started playing fairly seriously in bands, so I suppose even way back then I was somehow destined to end up at Generator!” said Nick.

After moving to Newcastle from London in 2007, Nick has worked with Sage Gateshead, Northumbria University, whilst also getting experience as a Tour Manager and Recording Engineer.

I’d been to a few Generator events over the years, and a band I was in played at Evolution Emerging, so I was really excited a couple of years ago when I got the opportunity to do some bits of freelance work here, and things just progressed pretty naturally from there to being appointed to this new role of Creative & Digital Programme Manager.

Nick’s main responsibilities are to oversee delivery across all programmes, including talent development and business support for the music, tech and digital industries, and to ensure that Generator’s team has the support to grow and develop within their own roles.

“Despite the trying times we find ourselves in, there’s a lot of positivity in the team with Hannah being new in post as CEOhaving a young and creative team around us, and a lot of impetus to grow and be innovative with the support we offer. It’s exciting to be a part of that.” Nick commented.

The appointment follows April’s appointment of new CEO Hannah Matterson, who has brought a series of new and exciting changes to the organisation including the newly launched Generator Youth Advisory Board.

Sarah Barron also joins the Generator team as Admin & Events Coordinator, having spent 6 months previously in the role of Talent Development Assistant part-time. Her new role will see her developing events programmes across the organisation and delivering these events for the respective business and music communities Generator serves.

Sarah said, “In my early teens, I discovered I had a real passion for music and started out as a singer and pianist.

I started regularly attending live music events and found a passion for local artists, local venues and the people that made it all happen.

Sarah worked previously for a large music promotion and events company based in Newcastle, before the opportunity arose to join the Generator team.

“I can’t wait to be working amongst a positive, vibrant and creative team, led by our exciting new CEO Hannah.”

“We’re a team who consistently strive to come up with and deliver new and unique ways to support the development of creative digital and music sectors and continue to improve our offering to the region.” Sarah commented.

Hannah Matterson, CEO of Generator, said, “I’m delighted to welcome Nick and Sarah to the Generator team. Their knowledge and expertise are invaluable to us and I’m pleased we will be working together to continue Generator’s mission of supporting creativity across the North East.”

“I am looking forward to implementing their ideas and seeing what we can achieve in the future.”
