Spotify UK’s Drew Lam, part of the Artist & Industry Partnerships team, will present Spotify’s Artist Masterclass, joining a list of celebrated music industry professionals set to descend on Tyneside.

Taking place at various venues in Newcastle’s Ouseburn Valley on Friday 21st June, the conference is supported by some of the UK’s leading music industry trade bodies, including award-winning music publishers Sentric Music, The Musicians’ Union, the UK’s premier royalty collection agency PRS For Music, licensing organisation PPL and independent music charity Help Musicians UK.

Alongside Spotify’s Artist Masterclass, there will be three key presentations which will focus on playlists and artist growth within the world’s leading streaming service. The Musicians’ Union will present ‘How to Win Friends and Influence Promoters’ followed by ‘WTF is Publishing’ a comprehensive guide to the world of music publishing led by industry experts Sentric Music.

In addition to the presentations, the Tipping Point Live Conference will feature two key panels; ‘Get Played – Get Paid’ led by PRS For Music and PPL and ‘Futureproofing DIY Artists’ presented by Help Musicians UK.

Giving artists the chance to have their say, Help Musicians UK will also invite music creators at Tipping Point Live to join a roundtable discussion on how the charity can better support the future career sustainability of artists from the North of England.

Generator’s conference organizer, Charlie Dancer, said: “We’re extremely proud to be hosting another free music industry conference for new and emerging artists of the North-East and beyond, containing some of the UK’s best and most knowledgeable industry leaders, including Spotify’s own Drew Lam.

We’re pleased to partner with some brilliant organisations who share our aim in supporting the region’s new talent. We are focused on talent development and want to ensure that this talent has a relevant understanding of the industry.”

Sarah Mitchell, Director of Member Services at PPL said: “The North-East has produced some incredible musical talent over the years, from Dire Straits and Maximo Park to Nadine Shah. Tipping Point Live and Generator’s work in bringing through the next generation of artists and music industry entrepreneurs will only grow the region’s reputation further, and so it is a pleasure to support them.”

James Cherry, manager of artist services at Sentric, said: “Sentric is delighted to be back in the North East for this year’s Tipping Point Live. We’re really looking forward to talking all things music publishing and connect with as many artists as possible.”

Artists will also have the opportunity to book in 1:1 advice sessions with the PRS For Music, PPL, the MU, Sentric and Help Musicians UK. Applications for this opportunity will be made available in the coming weeks.

Presented as part of Tipping Point Live festival, the new music showcase will welcome over 40 artists to some of the city’s most renowned venues. Headlined by The Coral’s Bill Ryder-Jones and curated by international record producer Bernard Butler, Maximo Park’s Paul Smith and Barry Hyde of The Futureheads, the festival includes a full programme of acts, events and industry workshops over Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd June.
