This week we continue our latest feature on the Tipping Point, spotlighting the biggest and best emerging acts from across the UK. Each Monday, we ask one of our esteemed tippers to select five of their hottest tips to be featured on the site throughout the week.

Today we introduce Rob McGee, booking Agent at The Empire Agency who represents various artists including Chloe Foy, Lazy Day, RDGLDGRN, Shawn James, THUMPER, Tungz & Tusks. Over the past 10-12 years, he has worked alongside artists from all walks of life including Idles, Demob Happy, October Drift & Harvey Causon among many others. Currently based in Bristol and waiting patiently for live to return, he has been using his time to build 2021 and discover as much new music as he can. Check out some of his findings below!

Do not sleep on this fierce Bristol based trio. Their last single ‘The Room’ came out in April 2020 and since then, they’ve said that they’re busy cooking up something new for us all. A personal favourite of mine is L’appel Du Vide’ which is always on heavy repeat, but every track has something special to give. They’ve been patiently waiting for gigs to return but until then, head over to their Spotify and give their music a blast – you won’t be disappointed. I wear their badge proudly and can’t wait to see their first show back.

Another Bristol act that should not be missed is Wych Elm, and I cannot speak highly enough about them! Their yellow vinyl ‘Rat Blanket’ is easily up there in my Top 10 and I encourage everyone to go and check them out. ‘Monkey Jaw’ has to be up there as a favourite and I can’t stress this enough – when they are back gigging, go buy a ticket. They are everything you want from a slacker rock band (a genre often forgotten) and I really can’t wait to see what they do next. In writing this, they just announced (and SOLD OUT) a stripped back show at The Lanes (via Gravy Train) on August 31st – a venue safely welcoming back seated live performances.

I’ve been hooked on DSR since I saw their performance on Dorks ‘Homeschool Festival’ back in May – that online performance knocked me off my chair and they’re up there as one of the first bands I want to see when live music returns. They’ve only released 3 (incredible) singles so far and I’m hooked on ‘Frame of Reference’. DSR ooze cool vibes and they are defiantly up there as ones to watch! I love everything about them – this music is especially good during a time like 2020 where you can just press play, sit back and escape.

I don’t even know where to start. EVERY song is an absolute vibe – you can’t NOT dance to anything Delilah puts out! This is one hell of a guitarist and songwriter – I recommend giving her a follow on Instagram/Facebook so you can catch some of the live streams of her jamming. Every song out is my favourite song, so listen to them all but if you need to start somewhere, start with her recent EP ‘Oh Boy’. This is another artist that I can’t wait to see live and one that makes me want to pick the guitar back up again. This is music for any day of the week – all aboard the hype train!

I was recently recommended this Norwich trio from a friend in America… as soon as I hit play on (my now favourite track) ’Trance State’, I was sold. I was blown away and on writing this (Tues 18 August), I’ve just seen that they will be releasing their Album this coming Friday – which is incredibly exciting! I don’t know much about Other Half, other than their music is real, it’s absolute dynamite and they clearly do not hold back. Buckle up and enjoy the ride, I think we’re going to be hearing a lot more from them.
