THIS BE THE VERSE

If you need something to blow the week’s cobwebs away before you celebrate the weekend, then look no further than today’s tip, the face-meltingly loud ‘Consequences’ by This Be The Verse. I’ve yet to confirm whether the London five-piece take their name from the equally awesome Philip Larkin poem (the one that starts, “They fuck you up, your mum and dad” – if you haven’t read it, check it out), but I digress.

A noisy melting pot of influences, This Be The Verse mix industrial beats with metal and hardcore, adding an electronic edge to splintering riffs for a glorious assault on the senses. Think The Bronx meets Dillinger Escape Plan meets Nine Inch Nails; in fact, This Be The Verse recently opened for NIN with a DJ set at their London Scala Show. Kicking off the proceedings with a drum solo aggressive enough to do some damage to your ear drums, Consequences is a cacophony of fuzzy basslines, dark electro and angular riffs. The addition of guttural, confrontational vocals further confirms that This Be The Verse might just be the loudest new band in the UK right now.
