Announced by Lauren Laverne (pictured) yesterday (27th January), 6 Music will broadcast live from various venues within Newcastle and Gateshead including The Sage Gateshead and the O2 Academy Newcastle from 20th-22nd February.

Additionally, there will be a 6 Music ‘Festival by Day’, ticketed separately to the evening events in venues in The Ouseburn and Stephenson Quarter areas of the city and organised in partnership with Generator on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd February from 11am-6pm.

The full line up for the daytime element will be announced on 6 Music on Tuesday 3rd February.

Head of Programmes for 6 Music Paul Rodgers said: “Building on the success of last year’s inaugural 6 Music Festival in Salford, we are proud to announce its return in 2015 on Tyneside. The festival brings together the most exciting alternative music of the moment, as well as championing emerging and established artists which represent the range of diverse music played on the station every day”.

In addition to the aforementioned, the event will also feature the likes of Neneh Cherry, Mogwai, Jon Hopkins, The Charlatans, Kate Tempest, Villagers, Django Django and Jungle. It will also be Sleater Kinney’s first live UK performance in almost ten years and this Saturday (31st January), Mary Anne Hobbs will announce a line-up of DJs performing at 6 Music Festival Late, an after-hours night on Saturday 21st February, from 10pm-2am, at The Boiler Shop in Newcastle.
