Generator Takes On Digital Union

Generator has been successful in acquiring the Digital Union network, which up until now has been delivered by Gateshead Council and to celebrate, we are holding an informal introductory event at the Bridge Tavern on the Newcastle Quay Side on Tuesday 14th July.

While Generator has built a strong national reputation for developing the region’s talent and music businesses, it began making changes in 2012 so that it could accommodate the business support needs of firms from the broader creative and digital industries showing its commitment to the growth of the sector as a whole.

Deputy CEO Jo Thornton commented: “We have been working with the Digital Union team over the last few years producing events such as UX Days and rolling out our Agile Project Management courses, enabling digital businesses in the region to benefit from current working practices and compete nationally”.

“We’ve also procured specialist advisors through our Interim Financial Director scheme, placing them within digital businesses at crucial growth stages, in order to provide the expertise normally only available to larger organisations”.

Since 2012, Generator has provided support to 100 businesses from the broader creative and digital industries and is due to publish a piece of research carried out with Centre for Public Policy that looks into the business support needs of the wider digital sector and how to address any regional imbalance.

Generator will continue to develop productive partnerships with regional creative and digital leaders including Thinking Digital, Dynamo and Sunderland Software City, alongside national organisations Tech North, Creative England and UKTI.

At this early point, we are keen to cultivate relationships with Digital Unions’ current members and associates and to that end, we are holding an informal gathering on Tuesday 14th July (6-8pm) on the 2nd floor of the Bridge Tavern in Newcastle. The point of the reception, which has been generously supported by digital agency Orange Bus, is to enable Generator to make proper introductions and provide hopefully the first of many networking opportunities.

For any regional creative and digital business interested in attending this informal reception, please email jo@generator.org.uk.

Places are limited and will be offered on a first come, first served basis.
