GIRLHOOD

This afternoons tip is a debut from London based Girlhood, who make hip-hop inspired pop from a narrowboat on Regent’s Canal.

The collaboration between Tessa Cavanna and Christian Pinchbeck was born out of frustration following, broken hearts, broken legs and previously failed musical projects. The act should count their blessings as their debut track ‘My Boy‘ is a playful, catchy debut single that’ll make you wish summer wasn’t over.

House influenced keys act as a backbone to the song but the track has many different parts. A much more straight-forward soul-chorus, to the subtle blips of electronics that give the track a modern edge which are then met with bodacious saxophone solo. Vocally, Girlhood is reminiscent of Amy Winehouse but musically the song has more in common with the likes of Lion Babe and NAO.

My Boy‘ is a strong debut effort from Girlhood, that has all the style to see them go far. We can’t wait to hear what magic will come from the narrowboat next.
