JAY BROWN

Risk google imaging Jay Brown and you’ll probably come face to face with some kid from Eastenders. There’s a history of television ‘stars’ (granted, mostly Australians) making music –Kylie, Holly Valance, Karl Kennedy of off Neighbours –but this time, thankfully, it’s not the case. The real Jay Brown is a singer come guitarist from Northampton and I’m at least ninety nine percent sure she hasn’t featured in an episode of Hollyoaks.

‘Into You’ is a track for summer even if the subject matter is well, no so light-hearted (‘you never mean what you say/it’s all broken words’ and ‘maybe I’m too into you’). Brown grew up listening to a mixture of reggae, soul and rock and her music is a curious yet commercial blend of all three. She’s putting out an EP in July 7th and Radio 1 have already clocked her for their playlist so you can probably expect to hear a lot more from her over the next few months.
