TOP TIPS FOR 2019: ABBIE MCCARTHY

We’re back and we’re ready for a whole new year of spotlighting the biggest and best emerging acts from across the UK.

Joining us this week with her top tips for 2019 is BBC Radio 1 and BBC Music Introducing host Abbie McCarthy. Alongside her radio duties she also stages monthly gig night Good Karma Club and will be heading out on a full UK tour this April with Leeds indie sensations Marsicans (tickets on sale here).

Delve into Abbie’s top tips for the next twelve months below.

CELESTE

One of the best voices I’ve EVER heard – beautifully soulful & totally mesmerising. For fans of Jorja Smith, Erykah Badu & Amy Winehouse. This young lady is looking set for a huge 2019, so watch this space…

CHIEDU ORAKU X DEEZKID

This is a BOP! Turn up the volume and enjoy this bassy anthem from prolific Hull rappers Chiedu Oraku and Deezkid.

EVERYONE YOU KNOW

I’ve very excited by this duo. It’s hard to pin them down in terms of genre, they’re inspired by hip hop, punk & 90’s rave and have blended that all together to make their own distinct & vibrant sound.

They’ve done some great remixes for the likes of Rag N Bone Man and Professor Green & dropped their 7 track debut EP ‘Cheer Up Charlie’ back in October – it’s well worth a listen to.

BEABADOOBEE

Beabadoobee is the stage name of 18 year old Londoner Bea Kristi, the latest signing to Dirty Hit Records. She makes dreamy pop tunes in her bedroom and last year her track ‘Coffee’ received a lot of attention online. She’s since recently released her ‘Patched Up’ EP featuring the gorgeous ‘Dance With Me’.

EMILY BURNS

Quite simply your new favourite popstar! She’s fun, she’s great live & she makes super catchy pop bangers with honest, storytelling lyrics.
