Spotify: Top of the Apps

Spotify is now officially the most popular streaming app in the world in terms of active users, downloads and revenue, according to a report published by App Annie. Spotify was followed closely by Pandora Radio, which was the top service in the US. Deezer, Beats and even TIDAL made the Top Five.

The report also reveals that streaming apps worldwide saw data consumption per active Android phone user grow by around 25% year-on-year while downloads increased by about 15%. Interestingly, revenue from in-app purchases more than doubled.

To celebrate, the green streaming giant has released a load of stats. This is how the music industry celebrates in 2015, by compiling some stats and treating itself to a night out at a digital marketing panel.

Drake was the most streamed artist in the world on the service in 2015, whilst Ed Sheeran was second, alongside being the most streamed artist ever and the most popular artist in the UK on the platform. The Weeknd, Maroon 5 and Kanye West comprised the rest of the top five.

‘Lean on’ by Major Lazer feat MØ & DJ Snake was the most steamed track and The Weeknd took the most streamed album with ‘Beauty Behind The Madness’. Rhianna was the top female artist both globally and in the UK and Spotify also revealed the top playlists. Find out more and see the complete lists here.
