BMG: An Infectious Effect

BMG Chrysalis UK has announced that it has fully acquired leading independent label Infectious Music.

Infectious artists such as Alt-J, Drenge, The Temper Trap, Local Natives, Superfood and These New Puritans will move over as part of the deal alongside the label’s team including Founder Korda Marshall.

BMG Chrysalis UK Executive Vice President Alexi Cory-Smith said: “Infectious has proven itself to be one of the UK’s most successful and artist-friendly independent labels with an outstanding roster. I look forward to working with Korda and the Infectious team to deliver an exceptional service for artists”.

Trying but failing to avoid any talk of taking it to the ‘next level’, Korda Marshall added: “After 33 years in music, my ambition for this business is undiminished and all of us at Infectious are looking forward to working with the BMG team. BMG shares many of our essential values and offers access to a level of scale, infrastructure and financial support that will help take the label to the next level”.

BMG has been on quite the shopping spree in recent years, snapping up Sanctuary Records, Mute Records and Skint/Loaded Records. The Infectious deal is said to be worth millions of pounds according to Music Week.

Infectious Music was founded in 1993, with successful alternative signings including Ash, Garbage and Funeral for a Friend. Marshall re-launched the label in 2009, releasing the debut album by The Temper Trap. The label went on to sign Alt-J, whose debut ‘An Awesome Wave’ was released in 2012 and has subsequently sold over a million copies alongside picking up The Mercury Music Prize and an Ivor Novella Award.
