Create: Live

Developing the next generation of live music promoters

Create: Live has delivered the next generation of live music promoters through mentorship, networking and skill sharing, which accumulated in a fully funded live music event to launch their promoter careers.

Create: Live North East

Through each cohort, we trained six people per cohort aged 18-25, from across the North East to become the next generation of music promoters and programmers.

The Create:Live programme provided 1:1 mentoring, group workshops covering industry topics & music industry events.

The programme worked to accumulate in the participants programming and promoting a gig in partnership with a venue in their local area – The Georgian Theatre in Stockton-On-Tees, South Tyneside Festival in South Shields Ampitheatre, and World Headquarters in Newcastle.

On the programme participants:

  • Received a budget of £1000 to spend on venue hire, artist and crew fees, advertising and promotion (we’ll help you work this out to stay within the guidelines)
  • Received a bursary for travel and other necessary expenses in participating in the programme – such as attending events and networking
  • Learned new skills, from peer networks, and access mentoring
  • Demonstrated their development by planning and delivering a show in the North East – worked in partnership with an exciting local venue or festival
  • Attended relevant industry insight events curated by Generator to support their development and help their planning process
  • Were matched with a relevant mentor who helped guide them through the programme and supported the development of their career

Live music is the incubator that nurtures new artists, allowing them to test, experiment and grow.

The North is becoming increasingly dominated by a few large promoters, which reduces opportunities for emerging artists.

Creating a new peer network of promoters across the North preserves a space for talent development, increases diversity and access of artists and audience, promotes collaboration and strengthens the grassroots music community.

The skills gained through this programme are transferrable to other music industry roles such as Artist Manager, Tour Manager, Festival Producer, Artist Liaison, and more.

Every year, Youth Music funds more than 300 projects nationwide, supporting around 80,000 children and young people to make music, develop their skills, and progress on their chosen paths. The charity campaigns alongside young people to advocate for those who are missing out, to invest where it’s needed most, and to drive change in the music industries and education.

Youth Music is funded thanks to the National Lottery via Arts Council England, players of People’s Postcode Lottery, and support from donors, partners and fundraisers.

Create:Live is our special Northern partnership with fellow talent development agency Jazz North.
