Uber, I Did it Again

Pinch me baby one more time because The Gen must still be sleeping. At least we had an amusing dream in which Britney Spears launched her new song in the back of an Uber or something.

We wish that we made it all up but of course it turns out to be true- Following Uber’s cringeworthy “DJ You, DJing from the back seat of your ride” partnership with Spotify, Britney Spears and Iggy Azalea’s new single ‘Pretty Girls’ premiered in a number of branded Uber vehicles in LA LA land last Sunday (May 3rd).

For a six-hour period, in a social experiment that wouldn’t seem out of place in an Aldous Huxley novel, LA dwellers could request a van with Britney’s name painted on the side to pick them up and play the track to them for up to 30 minutes. Over and over and over and over, like a monkey with a miniature cymbal. Which frankly sounds more a matter for Human Rights campaigners than The Gen.

Tune in next time where The Gen takes an Uber across town to the subtle strains of the latest Godspeed You! Black Emperor album to see how long it would take for the driver to simply snap and quite justifiably turf us out into the cold black night.
