UKVAs: Bonfire of the Vanities

The nominations for the UK Music Video Awards (UKMVAs) have been announced, including Florence and the Machine (pictured), Royal Blood, Ed Sheeran and FKA Twigs, who all have multiple nominations.

The annual celebration of creative and technical excellence in music video making will this year take place at The Roundhouse in London on November 5th.

There are also a couple of interesting looking events in the build up, with Adam Buxton’s BUG holding a special show on November 3rd celebrating The Beatle’s promotional films and recently restored formative music videos. This will followed on November 4th with one-day conference ‘MusicVidFest’ returning to BFI Southbank. As with most conferences, this will provide professionals within the music video industry and those interested in it with a platform to discuss the issues currently driving the sector.

UKMVAs Editorial Director David Knight said: “Since 2008, the UK Music Video Awards has celebrated music videos as a form of creative expression, as entertainment, as an effective way to bring music to the world. We’re honouring the creativity and technical skill of the people who make them – from directors to editors, artists to animators. This year the quality of entries across over 30 categories has been so strong that the task of coming up with the list of nominations has been more difficult than ever”.

Managing to get through the first part of the quote without mentioning a bonfire, Knight added: “But ultimately the nominations reflect the extraordinary extent of talent and craft that’s been applied to the making of music videos in Britain and around the world. And of course, when the UKMVAs 2015 comes to the Roundhouse on the November 5, there will be fireworks”.

Categories include best pop video, best rock / indie video, best dance video and best alternative video, with UK, International and budget awards in those categories, alongside Best Interactive Video, Best Commissioner, Best Director and more.
