Yeezy Does it: Kanye at Glasto

Kanye West has been confirmed as the Saturday night headliner at Glastonbury Festival this year, joining the previously announced Foo Fighters.

Confirmed in a tweet from Glastonbury’s Emily Eavis on Monday evening this week (16th March), bookmakers had already stopped taking bets on the huge star headlining.

Kanye will the second ever hip-hop artist to headline Glastonbury following Jay Z’s imperious performance in 2008, triumphant despite high profile detractors such as Noel Gallagher.

The Sunday headliner is yet to be announced, though Eavis also recently let slip that Courtney Barnett and Father John Misty will also both appear over the weekend.

An incredibly boring Yeezy backlash is already gathering, with needless online petitions and naysayers going gorillas on social media- in fact it was revealed that the individual who started the anti Kanye petition that insisted the festival books a rock band instead, has never been to Glastonbury as reported here in NME.

The Gen applauds the booking- Kanye is not a safe bet, this footage of him randomly ranting for a significant amount of time whilst headlining Wireless last year is proof of that.

However, this will ensure that the Saturday night at Glastonbury in both its live and televisual incarnations will have that ‘anything might happen’ edge it has been lacking for some time.

Glastonbury takes place from 24th-28th June and is sold-out, find out more here.
