This week we continue our latest feature on the Tipping Point, spotlighting the biggest and best emerging acts from across the UK. Each Monday, we ask one of our esteemed tippers to select five of their hottest tips to be featured on the site throughout the week.
Next up we have Ant Adams, assistant Editor at When The Horn Blows and a London-based freelance photographer. Check out Ant’s tips below!
NIA WYN
I first discovered Nia Wyn about two years ago at The Great Escape, where she was playing a early afternoon set at the Latest Music Bar. Her voice is just amazing, got this sort of vintage sound about her. She’s been putting out some new tracks recently that have got that proper old soul vibe to it, so I’m super excited to see what she brings. She is playing a headline show next month at the Waiting Room in London (19th November).
GLASS PEAKS
I’ve been working with these boys personally for around four years now. Jake their guitarist, lives like two roads away from me. But I’ve seen them develop over the past few years, their sound has changed from this moody indie to some vicious post-punk noise. And with that, its has turned them into this insane live band too. They are playing St Pancras Old Church in January, which is going to be beautiful.
SUBCULTURE
He’s a producer I’ve recently started listening to more. He worked with Tertia May on her debut EP and a few of her earlier tracks. I don’t know how to describe it, but you know when Subculture has worked on a track, because you can just tell. His way of thinking and working as a producer I just haven’t heard anywhere else recently.
ARXX
Another artist I discovered at The Great Escape Festival – this two-piece make quite a racket, but are also very polite on stage. That combo I love! It’s rock and roll, it’s blues and it’s rock all thrown into one really. They are playing the Finsbury tonight (22nd Oct), which is a venue I don’t go into often but I’m making an excuse this time round, just to go see them again.
ARIEL VIEW
I am a huge fan of Warpaint and this four-piece very much remind me of them. The vocals on the tracks they’ve been putting out in the past few months is stunning. And when I listen to them, I feel everything in their music, the mood, the sounds. It takes a lot for an artist or band to do that to me, but every once in a while, something stumbles along that does. And this is one of them.
