JAMES BAY

This track from James Bay reaffirms my almost-lost faith in acoustic singer-songwriters. Bay proves that the craft is well and truly alive, and can still be ignited with soul and passion.

His sound through ‘When We Were On Fire’ is rootsy, combining rusty vocals with minimal production, held together with an attacking acoustic and the electric piano adding a bit of soul. The hook is catchy enough for radio to cotton on soon enough too. Fans of Matt Corby et al will surely be happy with this, and I no doubt of its appeal to fans of the more mainstream acoustic singer-songwriters too.
