Generator welcomes owner of Silbo Ltd and design thinking expert, Philip Veal, to our new Supply Chain North East business expert panel. Read more about Philip and how he can benefit your business as part of our programme...

Who am I?

I started my career in the creative industries in the late 1980s. Since then, I have worked as a creative lead for British Airways as well as running my own digital agency, Silbo Ltd, working with clients such as Virgin Holidays, Channel 4, War Child, as well as regeneration projects such as the Digital City in Teesside. I also joined the board of an international NGO in 2008 and have worked with the United Nations. Silbo Ltd is now predominantly a Design Thinking agency working with a wide range of clients and sectors from large-scale construction to start-ups and all points in between.

What do I do?

I work with organisations to introduce design thinking as a discipline and methodology. This involves introducing processes such as design sprints [popularised by the likes of Google and IDEO] and helping organisations to solve problems and create new products and services in an effective and rigorous way. My way of doing this is to create “Design Thinking Systems” that relate directly to the client sector or problem rather than applying a cookie cutter approach.

How can I benefit your organisation?

My aim is help organizations become better at what they do through the application of proven methods. This may take the form of designing a better internal culture – a more effective way of working with external partners or creating an “innovation” stream that runs alongside an existing workflow. In each case the outcomes revolve around moving from a current situation to a better one.

Case Studies & Testimonials

Ryder Architecture

“Phil assisted Ryder as an independent facilitator during a three-day architectural design sprint. His in-depth experience was invaluable during both the preparation and conduct of the sprint, chiefly in ensuring the consultant design team understood and applied a hybrid sprint framework in a collaborative manner. The benefits were clear, improved communication, a greater collective understanding of the challenges and opportunities associated with the project, ultimately better design outcomes.”

Teesside University Launchpad Fuel

“‘Phil delivered an intensive one week programme of workshops on Lean Innovation and Design thinking for the Teesside Launchpad’s FUEL programme 2018 with a high level of professionalism and an in-depth knowledge of the subject area.

This enabled the FUEL teams to learn the core principles of the Lean Start Up methodology and Canvas models and apply them to their own businesses providing them with the best possible start to their start up journey.”

Creative Fuse North East

“We asked Phil to deliver a design thinking workshop for our innovation project NE Culture is Digital. He provided a range of useful techniques and bespoke templates for the session. These resources and his strong facilitation provided a great way for our participants to gain a clarity around the challenges they faced as organisations and enabled them to work with partners from the CDIT sector to co-design potential solutions. Great work!”
