Liverpudlian popstrel Jennifer Davies is on the verge of something big. Her debut EP ‘Lapse of Time‘ (available to download for free from her website) is an ambitious project that sets out what Davies is all about: sophisticated power-pop that is as intricately detailed as it is comfortingly familiar.

Choke‘ is a fine example of the kind of refined pop Davies is so good at. Davies‘ voice floats over the verses in a girlish fashion before the powerful, almost anthemic chorus kicks in. The song is accompanied by an equally impressive video and, despite the fact that Davies claimed to have “feared for her life” at certain points, the wild, rugged nature of the environment Davies finds herself in matches perfectly with the tone of the song. With her sophisticated electro-pop, impressive vocal range and polished look, it wouldn’t be at all surprising if we heard a lot more about Jennifer Davies in the future.
