PJ Harvey’s Public Service

PJ Harvey (pictured) will record her next album in public, essentially turning the recording studio into an art installation open to the public at Somerset House in London.

The ‘Recording in Progress’ project will see Harvey and her band spend four weeks creating her as yet untitled ninth album behind one way mirrored glass. A limited number of public tickets were made available for 45-minute slots to view what they are up to and these have already sold-out. Fans are already reportedly hoping to not catch Harvey on a tea break or some kind of hour-long creative impasse, however unlikely for the two-time winner of the Mercury Prize.

PJ Harvey said: “I want Recording in Progress to operate as if we’re an exhibition in a gallery. I hope visitors will be able to experience the flow and energy of the recording process”.

James Lingwood and Michael Morris Co-directors of Artangel who have been working with Harvey on the project, said: “The working process of a project has always been as important to us as its public presentation and here both can be fully explored and revealed at the same time”.
