Following the success of our first WeCreate songwriting course we are launching an extensive talent development program aimed at female emerging songwriters.
The course will include an 8-week songwriting development course and a range of wider development opportunities for 10 emerging artists.
As well as developing songwriting and vocal skills, artists will build a professional digital portfolio of work and develop a range of wider abilities including collaboration, researching wider development opportunities and understanding current music industry issues. Following the initial course, you will be supported to develop your cultural leadership by working towards producing your own gigs. In the following months you will have access to Generator events and masterclasses and receive ongoing one-to-one support from our talent development team, helping you to shape your own career pathway.
Hosted in Newcastle’s Loft studios, artists will receive expert mentoring from professional musicians Liz Corney and Cath Stephens of popular folk act The Cornshed Sisters, plus some inspirational guest artists throughout the course.
This opportunity is open to female and female identifying emerging songwriters who will need to submit an application before the deadline on 30th September at midnight. The course is fully funded by Arts Council England and Youth Music and places are very limited.
Successful participants will need to be able to commit time to the full course (happening on Monday evenings and some Saturdays for 8 weeks followed by ongoing support in early 2019 – please apply below to receive the full course dates). WeCreate is a talent development project funded by Youth Music, PRSF and ACE that seeks to draw attention to the under representation of women in the music industry. It creates opportunities for female artists and aspiring music industry professionals to develop creative work, find role models and pursue career pathways in music. Opportunities are all free, including workshops, courses, network development opportunities, artist residencies, industry sessions with leading female contributors, music industry learning events and showcase opportunities. The project is connected to wider national initiatives and delivered through partnerships with Brighter Sounds’ Both Sides Now Project which is supporting women across the North, The Roundhouse (London) and the PRSF talent development partners network.
