TOTT #3: BIPOLAR SUNSHINE
Adio Marchant aka Bipolar Sunshine, former vocalist of Kid British, has been busy creating catchy, soulful, RnB-come-indie-pop all the way from Manchester this year; and what a year it has been. Ever since we first featured him on our Tipping Point last May, Bipolar Sunshine has tallied up various festival appearances, Hottest Record on Zane Lowe’s Radio 1 show, a track with Rudimental, two EPs, and killer shows with the likes of Bastille, AlunaGeorge and many more great artists. As far as emerging acts go, Bipolar Sunshine is up there with the top of the crop.
The track we’re featuring is ‘Rivers’ – an upbeat number straight from his first EP ‘Aesthetics’, wonderfully produced by the band’s guitarist Jazz Purple. It’s got the immediacy and hooks of a great pop song, yet there is a lot more to find within the depths of the track. A depth not always found within modern pop music. Marchant muses over the girl’s feelings “Maybe you love me, maybe you don’t” and manages to fuse relaxing vocal melodies, shimmering guitars and chopped-up beats to create one of the most exciting tracks of the year.
2014 will see Marchant and his band hit SXSW, as well as a tour with French heavyweights Phoenix, and more good music for us!
