Programme Overview

Generator, in collaboration with Newcastle College and creative organisations across the North East, presents the ‘Skills Bootcamp in Technical Skills for Live Events (Stagehand)’. This Level 3 qualification offers aspiring live event professionals a chance to develop essential skills and gain hands-on experience at leading venues in the region. The course provides comprehensive training for technical roles, including safety protocols, lighting, sound, and stage management, preparing participants for real-world challenges in the live entertainment industry.

Work Placement and Interviews
Our goal is for all students who complete the course to be offered at least a 12-week casual contract with a venue upon successful completion of the course. Interviews, or casual recruitment discussions, are to be held during the final weeks of the programme to help graduates transition directly into work

Learning Approach
The programme is structured to provide practical, hands-on training in key stagehand roles, with a strong focus on safety and professionalism. Students will:

  • Gain practical experience in all aspects of live performance, including: counterweight flying, rigging, lighting basics, working at height, sound basics, PPE and tools and stage basics.
  • Learn about the various roles within theatre, music, and performance venues.
  • Engage in career planning and explore production processes in different types of venues.
  • Complete training in areas like IOSH, first aid, and fire safety.

Key Dates and Support
The 12-week course begins on 13th January 2024 and focuses on practical learning experiences throughout. Participants will also benefit from additional support from both Newcastle College and Generator.
