MOSA WILD
Amidst the January gloom, the dark mornings and whatever that thundersnow was all about comes a lovely bright spot in the form of ‘Smoke’.
It’s hard to believe this is Mosa Wild’s first song – it sounds so accomplished, so mature, so right. Sweeping instrumentation gently builds up into a swell while Jim Rubaduka’s vocals wrap themselves around you and smother the air out. It evokes some of the stirring melancholy of The National or Editors, with a tiny splash of the wood-cabin, crackling-fire thoughtfulness of early Bon Iver.
They’ve set themselves a dangerously high bar to follow, but if what comes next is as good as this then 2017 might not be so grim after all.
