Glasto Visits V & A

The V & A Museum is set to display a major archive of material from Glastonbury Festival’s 44-year history.
The exhibition will feature every poster and programme from every festival since it launched in 1970 alongside film, photographs, t-shirt designs and tickets.

Founder of Glastonbury Festival Michael Eavis said: “When I set out on this crazy hippy trip 44 years ago, little did I know how this rollercoaster would run. But now I have to pinch myself every morning when I wake up to the excitement of another day heading up a team of the most creative artists anywhere in the world”.

Eavis continued: “The V&A is an inspirational space and feels like the natural ‘home’ for our ever-evolving archive so we can really show everyone, not just festival-goers, what we really do”.

Starting this year, at the end of each event, the V&A will develop a rolling archive with the intent of documenting the evolution of the site, performances and audiences. Selected highlights will be displayed in the V&A’s Theatre and Performance Galleries from March 2015-January 2016.

Glastonbury Festival sold out in record time this year and takes place from 25th-29th June, headlined by Arcade Fire, Kasabian and Metallica. The festival was founded by Eavis in 1970 and was attended by 1,500 people, with an entry fee of £1- this included free milk from the farm. It has grown to become the largest open-air music and arts festival in the world. This year, 135,000 tickets were sold and the event now features over 60 stages and 2,000+performers across a 900-acre site.
