Generator x OBODO Music & Screen Week

A week of music and screen learning at OBODO Sound in Newcastle with Mike Lee Thomas, Ricky Graham and Helen Claire Walkinshaw.

DAY 1 – The Art of The Pitch

Directors’ interpretations and thoughts are presented in digital treatments to win commercial briefs and jobs. Explore the digital tools and techniques needed to present your vision of storyboards, animatics, references and the treatment itself.

Mike Lee Thomass – Raised in The North of England and with a background in motion design, clients include: Tommy Hilfiger, Hyundai, Converse, New Balance, Zeiss, Adidas, Bayer, Dazed, Huawei, Canon, Microsoft, Sennheiser & BBC.

His powerful visual motifs and curious exploration of the human condition have seen him nominated at Young Director Award and achieve the highest ever rated VOTD for his Oh Wonder film.

Workshop Criteria

  • All experience levels welcome
  • Please bring your own laptop
  • Bring images and typefaces that resonate with you.

 

DAY 2 – Mix Drop In

Mix drop in with Ricky Graham

After spending 25 years at AIR Studios, Sphere Studios and Abbey Road, Ricky has credits on anything from Queen and John Lennon to Robbie Williams. There will be eight one hour mixing slots available across the week. Please book one session only.

Workshop Criteria

  • Please bring a mix that you would like to develop either as a Logic or Pro Tools session
  • Bring your laptop that you work on for ease

 

DAY 3 – Creating a Sound Installation

Plus Artists Advice drop-in sessions with Helen Walkinshaw

Conceptual basics of sound as art + examples

Introduction to xbox controller based 4.1 interactive surround rig generating audio for sound piece on 4.1 rig

Sharing of all works created

Workshop Criteria

  • All sound design experience welcome (beginner to pro)
  • Sound recording/generating/editing equipment supplied (please do bring along your own too!)

DAY 4 – Mix Drop In

DAY 5 – Always Be Cutting / Art of the Edit

Everyone should know how to edit and manipulate your footage, graphics and sound. An understanding of how to use and jump between the three is crucial to communicating your vision.
