Newcastle-based Interval Records Unveils First Homegrown Signing Led by Acclaimed Industry Creative Josh Daniel
Innovative Newcastle-based label Interval Records signs Middlesbrough-born singer-songwriter Finn Forster as their first core roster signing.
Newcastle-based record label Interval Records is led by acclaimed industry creative, Josh Daniel, an artist and artist manager with a wealth of music industry knowledge. On the back of selling 100,000 records, amassing over 1 billion views online, and performing for the royal family, Daniel is certainly well-versed as an artist in the industry. After founding his artist management company, JD Media Group, and working as a creative consultant for Meta and Google, he’s no stranger to strategic planning for success. His entrepreneurial work has him named a ’40 under 40 Future Black Leader’ by The Black Cultural Archives. These experiences combined certainly set him in good stead to nurture emerging talent through leading the label.
Recently opening its doors to young students to give them work experience and shadowing opportunities, Interval Records is also tackling the deep-rooted skills and knowledge barrier in the North. Paired with the fresh opportunities for artists, it’s breaking down the dated London-centric notion of the music industry. As we’ve seen with the approval of the Crown Works Studio in Sunderland, investment truly is key to success in the future. After quickly becoming recognised as a leader in the creative and cultural sector, where Newcastle was named in the 2023 IGN report as a ‘Creative Challenger’ city, all signs clearly point to the North East. Through projects such as Interval Records, we’re securing the industry triumphs of tomorrow and welcoming you to join us.
Marking their position as a label clearly adept at sourcing and uplifting talent, their latest signing signifies a new dawn for the region. Growing up in Middlesbrough, rising singer-songwriter Finn Forster combines introspective songwriting with a soulful indie sound, which has piqued the interest of many industry insiders. BBC Music Introducing in the North East made his latest single ‘Grey Skies’ their Track Of The Week, and he’s received numerous festival slots across the UK, as well as supporting slots with the likes of Rag’n’Bone Man, Bastille, and The Reytons. Self-described as ‘Small Town Man, Super Massive Journey’, his standout track, ‘On My Mind’, has been playlisted on Radio 2 New Music playlist for three weeks. His official music video got its national television debut on Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch. Backed by Claire Collins PR, Wixen Music Publishing, One Finix, and Wood Management, he has amassed over 300,000 combined Spotify streams and his latest EP, “Grey Skies”, only confirms that he is leading the next generation of future festival headliners and chart-toppers. You’ll be able to catch him at Generator Live at Newcastle’s Boiler Shop in October.
Finn Forster said: “I’m incredibly excited to be signing to Interval Records. I focus on surrounding myself with great people and Josh and the entire Interval team align with my vision for the future. I’m really proud to be the label’s first core signing and to be an example of some of the talent we have up North!”
Josh Daniel, Interval Records’ Label Lead said: “Welcoming Finn Forster to the Interval Records family as the first core roster signing is a hugely exciting moment for us. He is a standout local talent and the full package; a great artist, songwriter and live performer, with some impressive achievements to his name already. More than anything though, he’s one of the most hard-working and grounded Artists I’ve come across in a long time. Finn has all the ingredients to make a global star and that’s exactly what we’re targeting.”
Mick Ross, Generator’s CEO said: “Strengthening the music industry infrastructure that enables local artists to thrive with a label such as Interval Records is invaluable for our region. I’m elated that Generator has a hand in making this change happen. Finn Forster is an incredible example of the wealth of talent present in the North East. We’re looking forward to seeing him flourish while continuing to expand and break down barriers, making our industry inclusive and sustainable for all.”
