SUZI WU
London-based newcomer Suzi Wu is already causing something of a stir. As well as topping the Hype Machine chart, her latest track has garnered radio support from the likes of Zane Lowe, Annie Mac and Phil Taggart.
It’s easy to see why. ‘Taken Care Of’ is an intensely addictive and infectious ode to the trials and tribulations of adolescence and finding comfort and power in yourself, whatever your imperfections. It exudes a confidence and self-assuredness that is in stark contrast to the vulnerability of its subject and covers a multi-season character development arc (think Arya Stark – without the predilection for brutal revenge kills) in one sublime track.
The bassline is head-noddingly fantastic as the vocal flits from the roawl of a young lioness to ‘come at me’ confidence. It’s punky, electro-indie with a smile-inducing hip-hop undercurrent. It’s a track that will resonate with listeners of all ages, those of us who have been through the self-doubt of your teenage years and those experiencing it right now. We can all come together and groove and reflect in the subtle power of this superb offering from a genuinely exciting new talent.
‘Taken Care Of’ features on the debut Suzi Wu EP, Teenage Witch which is out now on limited edition 12″ vinyl and digital via Lucky Number.
