Tipper Of The Week: Jared Musson
This week we continue our latest feature on the Tipping Point, spotlighting the biggest and best emerging acts from across the UK. Each Monday, we ask one of our esteemed tippers to select five of their hottest tips to be featured on the site throughout the week.
Jared Musson is a music enthusiast and founder of the music reviewing website Mortal Vibrations. Not only can his work be found there, but also at Louder Than War, where Jared has reviewed a vast range of albums and live shows, as well as conducting an interview with Rival Sons’ frontman Jay Buchanan.
THE BREW
These three rockers formed in their hometown of Grimsby and haven’t looked back since. The Brew pack a unique blend of modern songwriting, soaked in a classic Hendrix-like instrumentation, in order to form a juicy burst of rock goodness. If you’re new to the group, listen to ‘Kam’, ‘Repeat’, and ‘Reached The Sky’.
DU BLONDE
If gripping, gritty rock ‘n’ roll is your thing then look no further than Du Blonde. The British songwriter pens her music in such a poetic style, featuring outrageous lyrics and powerful guitar riffs. Her voice is unbelievable and Du Blonde really is one of the most exciting talents around right now.
THE TEMPERANCE MOVEMENT
The Temperance Movement are everything a rock band should be. They’ve got a phenomenal, energetic frontman in Phil Campbell, huge, catchy songs on each of their three records, and are most importantly an incredible act to watch live. What’s even better is that the band seem to be progressing and gaining more popularity with time, as their latest album ‘A Deeper Cut’ is their greatest work yet.
THE STRUTS
Though this group have found plenty of success over in the United States, they’re yet to really break through in the UK. The Struts are however, beginning to turn that around by playing more shows here and allowing themselves to be further exposed to people in their homeland. You won’t have more fun with modern music than listening to The Struts and the group really put on a show at live gigs. With only two albums under their belts, now is the perfect time to get into them.
SHAME
These group of London-based, post-punker’s only have a single record to their name but, Shame’s debut album ‘Songs of Praise’ is one of the best efforts at creating exciting rock music in quite some time. The songs this band have produced so far are thrilling, extremely British, and borrow very kindly from some of punk’s greatest ancestors. Listen to Shame if you simply want the best of new British music.
