TIPPER OF THE WEEK: JOE WEAVER

We continue to shine a spotlight on the biggest and best emerging acts from across the UK. Each Monday, we ask one of our esteemed tippers to select five of their hottest tips to be featured on the site throughout the week.

Next up we have Joe Weaver, manager for Gaffa Tape Sandy, owner of Toonteen artist management and promoter for Washing Machine in Bury St Edmunds. Read all about Joe’s tips below.

AMETHYSTS

Straight out of Suffolk, duo Clarice & Simon create some of the most beautiful and powerful electronic pop going right now. Their songs build slowly before flooding over you, leaving you drenched in harmonious melody, with lyrics that are stuck in your head for days. And if you also happen to like the colour purple then that’s a bonus!

GLOO

If you like fast-paced gritty alternative rock, then Littlehampton three-piece ‘Gloo’ are the ones for you. After releasing their debut album ‘A Pathetic Youth’ in July you can catch them gigging frantically around the UK, with more new music already on the horizon. I’m yet to catch them live myself but expect a change of clothing afterwards, and possibly a shower, would be needed.

THE BASKERVILLES

Fresh from storming Reading & Leeds Festival (thanks to the beautiful BBC Introducing), The Baskervilles have wasted no time in supplying the people with their fix of riff-filled indie rock. Their latest track ‘Blind Ambition’ stealing the show, and demonstrating how varied and dynamic their songwriting can be, especially when played alongside their previous few releases. I for one cannot wait to hear what’s coming next, and am itching to see them live once more.

BEACH RIOT

Another torchbearer of this years BBC Introducing pick at Reading & Leeds, and ‘Beach Riot’ seemed to grab everyones attention with their own brand of chaotic alternative rock. Their live shows are exciting and full of energy, having first caught them at this years Alternative Escape in Brighton where they played around 4-5 shows over the course of the weekend. Insane effort.

THE CATCH

Fresh from Bury St Edmunds Rock City, The Catch are leaping from strength to strength with their latest release ‘Spit It Out’. This three-piece are defining new British Indie Rock with raw and infectious pop-sprinkled anthems, taking influence from bands such as Lower Than Atlantis & Bring Me The Horizon, while remaining true to their indie roots. You can tell that this band are made up of genuine friends who absolutely love playing together, and while they start to venture out of the local scenes it’s safe to say that their sound will only mature and develop further.
