AIM Of Thrones

The Association of Independent Music (AIM) awards took place in London (Tuesday 6th) with winners including Stormzy, Adele, XL Recordings owner Richard Russell and Slade.

Hosted by Radio X’s John Kennedy and BBC Radio 1/1Xtra presenter MistaJam, the event featured live performances from Oscar and Little Simz. Richard Russell was the recipient of this year’s Pioneer Award, with long-term friend and collaborator Damon Albarn presenting the award, after an endearing if rather rambling prelude.

Grime star Stormzy received the Innovator Award and Roisin Murphy (pictured) collected the Outstanding Contribution to Music Award. Elsewhere, the Best Difficult Second Album award was picked up by Daughter for ‘Not To Disappear’ and Adele was awarded Independent Track of The Year for ‘Hello’.

Independent Label of The Year went to Epitaph/Anti and Numbers collected the Best Small Label award.

In related AIM news, the trade association recently appointed Paul Pacifico as its new CEO.Pacifico joins from his previous role as CEO of the Featured Artists Coalition (FAC) and succeeds AIM founder Alison Wenham.
