Apple: PipTorrent
As PIPCU rounds up the pirates, resulting in them simply setting up clones of a load of proxy sites, a BitTorrent client has been approved for sale on Apple’s App Store.
The not in any way shadily named ‘Blue Downloader’ allows downloads from a selection of trusted sites, meaning that users can’t use it to download files from sites such as The Pirate Bay or Kick Ass Torrents.
According to Apple, quoted in Torrentfreak, other torrent apps have been previously rejected “because this category of application is often used for the purpose of infringing third-party rights”. The Gen suggests that the clue is in the title.
In other Apple news, the tech giant confirmed that it is set to make staff cuts at recent acquisition Beats but denied the widely reported figure of 200 job losses.
Apple spokesman Tom Neumayr said: “We’re excited to have the Beats team join Apple, and we have extended job offers to every Beats employee. Because of some overlap in our operations, some offers are for a limited period and we’ll work hard during this time to find as many of these Beats employees as we can another permanent job within Apple”.
