BARLI
The likes of FKA Twigs and Indiana have recently done a great job of bringing female fronted, edgy downtempo electronica back into the mainstream. Barli is jostling to join those two with more power than the former and more soul than the latter. The latest from this seemingly mysterious duo is ‘Stole’. The stripped-to-the-bone and atmospheric beat is almost as minimal as the band’s biography.
Over this Barli’s smoky tones weave hook upon hook as the track builds towards a dark coffee table nirvana. The mellow, crunchy production coupled with an emotive and memorable chorus could well put this band on the playlists of a generation of weed smokers and coming down clubbers.
