BBC Music: Television Rules

As the BBC releases details of its highest paid presenters and stars, BBC Music has announced details of a new primetime six-part music TV show that will be screened in autumn this year.

The BBC’s annual report, published today, listed the 96 stars who earn more than £150,000 a year, which you can pore over here should you wish. The details were part of the BBC’s agreement with Government as part of their new 11-year royal charter.

Altogether, their earnings total almost £30m and notably, only one third of the names on the list are women. BBC Director General Lord Hall said it highlighted a need to “go further and faster” on gender issues.

Back to the TV show- a new six-part music series will be broadcast live on BBC One, featuring live performances, sketches and interviews. Further details are somewhat thin on the ground, though Director of BBC Radio and BBC Music Bob Shennan seems excited, saying: “The BBC is the biggest music broadcaster in the UK and we are always looking for new ways to bring music to our audiences. This series will be a fantastic opportunity to showcase the biggest and best UK and international bands and artists and we’re looking forward to working with one of the world’s most innovative and creative TV production companies”.

That production company is Fulwell 73, who has been commissioned to produce the series by Charlotte Moore, Director BBC Content, and Jan Younghusband, for BBC Music and BBC Entertainment on BBC One.
