BRY

Bry sounds like a mix of BANKS and The XX, with a chunk of Lorde thrown in. Her latest single, Boy, shares with those artists music that has a dark and dangerous secret to it, music which darkly captivates you. The track starts with pulsating bass beats and a scratch which sounds like Jon Hopkins playing around with a submarine’s sonar system. She also uses a pitch change in the vocals, which reminds us of Lorde’s Tennis Court. The ever present sad synth works well, adding tension and when the chorus drops in, the brasher bass beats recall Kanye’s last album Yeezus.

She’s already had another great track out this year, Night Flights and now with Boy, we might finally have the UK’s female answer to The Weeknd; a seriously talented songwriter who can tell stories of love and heartbreak through her songs, which sound like beautiful gloomy shadows.
