Don’t Stop Believin’

Regular readers of The Gen will know that there is nothing that we love more than a good old strategic partnership in the music industry. So, we were delighted to hear that our pals at Believe Digital have secured a partnership with Tencent, one of Asia’s largest online media companies.

Under the agreement, Tencent will become the exclusive Chinese partner of Believe and will distribute a repertoire of over 6 million songs on its QQ Music platform, in addition to managing the sub–licensing business to local online music service providers in mainland China.

What is such an announcement without a quote, we hear you cry? Believe Digital Founder and CEO Denis Ladegaillerie did not disappoint, saying: “Believe’s mission is to offer the best opportunities for independent labels and artists; we are therefore very proud to start this collaboration with one of the biggest players in China”.

He continued: “It’s important for us to be proactive in building a real economic ecosystem for digital music in China, and to work hand-in-hand with Tencent to contribute to a fairer digital music landscape for independent music”.
