Evolution Emerging 2015 Lineup Revealed

Following last year’s sell-out event Generator are proud to announce this year’s Evolution Emerging festival.

Generator were overwhelmed to receive over 400 artist submissions this year and are thrilled to be showcasing a diverse lineup with 40 artists performing at our 2015 event, including a national act selected through our continued partnership with independent music publisher Sentric Music.

On Saturday 23rd May 40 of the best emerging artists will take over 9 venues in the Ouseburn Valley, Newcastle with very special guest headliners Lisbon, Hyde & Beast and Shields.

As the event enters its biggest year yet, Generator is continuing its low ticket fee to reflect the ambitions of the event and to ensure growth in future years. All this new music can be seen for just £5 which includes free entry to our aftershow party at Retreat.

Generator’s ability to programme the best emerging talent in the region and beyond has provided a fantastic platform for new acts to follow in the footsteps of Lulu James, Mausi, Beth Jeans Houghton, The Lake Poets, Nadine Shah, Eliza and the Bear and Boy Jumps Ship. We’re really excited to once again fill the Ouseburn Valley with an abundance of new talent and continue to build the national profile of the event.”

Lisbon have come a long way since their debut at the event as an opening act at Evolution Emerging in 2013. The alt-pop four-piece released debut single ‘Blue Love’ back in February last year which lead to them receiving national acclaim on Radio One from Greg James and Huw Stephens as BBC Introducing’s track of the week. Follow-up singles ‘Rio’ and Native’ also fared well in terms of national airplay and the quartet went on to play the likes of T In The Park and Kendal Calling in the summer of 2014 before selling-out further hometown shows at the end of last year. With support slots for Little Comets already conquered this month and their debut EP ‘Life Is Good’ scheduled for release later this year, we can’t think of a better band to headline The Cluny at our 2015 event.

Having last played the festival back in 2011 following the release of debut album ‘Slow Down’, Hyde & Beast will make a triumphant return to headline the Cluny 2 at this year’s event. The drummer turned-songwriting duo featuring The Futureheads’ Dave Hyde and Neil Bassett of The Golden Virgins, delivered their most emotionally heavyweight recordings to date in the shape of second studio album, ‘Keep Moving’, last August. We’re delighted they’ll be back to showcase a selection of these tracks in the intimate surroundings of the Cluny 2 this summer.

Evolution Emerging’s third co-headliners are Shields. The local favourites make their first headline appearance at the festival following their successful performance at the BBC 6 Music Festival in February which has generated a huge amount of buzz and anticipation for the forthcoming release of debut album ‘How Can We Fix This?’ We can’t think of a more perfect band to round off a night of scintillating live music at The Tyne Bar.

Discovered through Sentric Music, Leeds’ Glass Caves play at The Cluny whose lineup is completed by alt-pop four-piece Alexander, Boro sensation Samantha Durnan and boisterous indie rockers Coquin Migale.
As well as Hyde & Beast at the Cluny 2, the event will witness the melancholic fuzziness of Orange County, gifted singer-songwriter Beth Macari, lo-fi folksters Dressed Like Wolves and the sumptuous indie pop vibes of Charlie Dancer.

The Tyne Bar stage sees Shields joined by raucous pop punk four-piece Martha, chaotic post-rockers Schultz, dreamy shoegazers Figmennt and instrumental progressive metal outfit Kylver.

Elsewhere on the lineup, The Cumberland Arms will play host to accomplished headliners The Great Curve, along with the heavily-touted Cape Cub, FIFA favourites The Sons Of Bido Lito and Nano Kino, the new project featuring Maximo Park’s Duncan Lloyd.

The Tanners will be home for the night to genre-defining Boro quartet Bi:Lingual, brooding alt-rockers ILSER, self-confessed nerdcore punx Skull Puppies and DIY electronic duo Massa Confusa.

And Evolution Emerging will be taking over three great intimate venues again, with Antlez, The Broken Broadcast, Lord Swans, Canyons, AKO, Keiandra, Joe Allan, Symmatik, What We Call Progress, Joe Ramsey, Melissa Rose and Lesley Roley among the many acts playing Blank Studios, Ernest and Little Buildings across the Ouseburn Valley.

And if that wasn’t enough, the official Evolution Emerging Aftershow will this year be taking place at one of our newest venues Retreat situated at the top of Stepney Bank. Our DJ sets are still to be announced but that’s not all. The venue will also be accommodating infectious headliners Keep Breathing, indie enthusiasts Street Party In Soho, potent rock outfit Hazels, the majestic Sun Dance and Hartlepool’s own Shoot The Poet earlier in the evening which is sure to help spread the party atmosphere.
