As the event continues to grow year on year, Generator has consulted with its loyal and passionate audience to build Evolution Emerging in a way that works within the cultural context of the vibrant Ouseburn Valley.  The opportunity to enjoy 44 exciting, emerging artists and attend the event afterparty for only £8 is testament to the event’s ambition to offer real value for money whilst continuing to develop in future years. The team is also delighted to welcome a host of new sponsors and event partners including Sentric Music Publishing, Gigs North East and Igloo.

Generator’s Artist Development Manager, Bob Allan says:

“Following another sold out year we’re really excited to be heading into our eighth Evolution Emerging festival, the event continues to showcase the best new artists from the North East alongside some of our favourites from around the UK. The growth of this event is testament to the talent that thrives in our region and the appetite of festival goers to discover the best we have to offer.

We’re really excited to once again fill the Ouseburn Valley with more than 40 new artists and continue to shine a national spotlight on the abundance of emerging talent that graces our stage each year. See you in the valley!”

HEADLINER – Cattle & Cane

It may have been five years in the making, but Cattle & Cane’s debut album ‘Home’, released late last year, suggests every single day was worth it. With their melding of soaring choruses and delicate melodies to their everyman lyrics that swerve cliché to create a sense of community and shared experience, Cattle & Cane’s ubiquity in the North East is set to spread across the UK.

Never one for arrogance – Cattle & Cane’s Joseph Hammill is possessed of a justified surety, supported by songs full of singalong moments … ‘I’ve got total belief in the songs and in us. I believe we’re going to keep getting better and better and keep finding friends wherever we go; that’s why we started this band and it’s still the reason we love playing.’

With that said it’s clear that this very family concern (Joe, his sister Helen and brothers Fran and Vin make up 4/5ths of the band) is only at the opening of their story and it’s a pleasure to welcome them as headliners for Evolution Emerging 2016

Cattle & Cane released their debut album, ‘Home’ on September 14th 2015 via Quiet Crown Recordings.

Discovered through Sentric Music, Chesterfield based TRASH and SHE DREW THE GUN (coming from The Wirral) alsoplay at The Cluny whose lineup is completed by the excellent and enigmatic EAT and dream pop 5 piece SEEING HANDS

In the Cluny 2, the event will witness the ‘cabaret death songs’ of KINGSLEY CHAPMAN AND THE MURDER together with the raw and energetic MOUSES, a re-inspired EVA STONE, the brand spanking new HEIST and the soaring and fragile delicacy of IMMY WILLIAMS.

The Tyne Bar stage sees one of the region’s most exciting new prospects – A FESTIVAL, A PARADE joined by the immediate garage punk of AVALANCHE PARTY, the brilliant DRIFTS, the anthemic math pop of PLAZA and thedark, melancholic alt-rock of THE WELCOME PARTY

Elsewhere on the lineup, The Cumberland Arms will play host to the excellent BAKER ISLAND who brilliantly describe their music as ‘lo-fi noise pop with weird bits’. They will be accompanied by otherworldly, electronic explorers TEN STICKS, along with the explosive and political CASUAL THREATS, thesublime songwriter JAKE HOULSBY and the deeply inventive, nonchalant musings of JAMES LEONARD HEWITSON

The Tanners will be home for the night to the alternative hip-hop of CEILING DEMONS, KAY GREYSON and JAY SIMIAN AND THE MIDNIGHT SOCIETY alongsidethe gritty electro pop of TALK LIKE TIGERS and the ‘navel gazing heartache mixed with deadpan wit’ of OUTSIDE YOUR HOUSE

In addition, Evolution Emerging will be taking over four great intimate venues again, with Old Prides, Bares, Crying Lions, Behold a Pale Horse, Kate Edwards, Callum Pitt, Haythem, Soham De, YUMA, Eve Simpson, Ditte Elly, Hannah Brown and Life Mechanics among the many acts playing Blank Studios, Blast Studios, Ernest and Little Buildings across the Ouseburn Valley.

And if that wasn’t enough, the event once again will feature a brand new venue in COBALT,situated on Boyd Street just along from ERNEST, which will feature some of the most exciting electronic and pop acts includingthe experimental imagination of GREY TAPES andthe colourful alt pop of JOY ATLAS alongside must- see breakthrough artists SOSHE, PARASTATIC and TCHOTCKHE.

Ace producer XAATU will get theafterparty started which will continue in COBALT until late.
