Finding Eno
It has been announced that musician and producer Brain Eno will deliver the BBC Music John Peel Lecture at Radio Festival 2015.
Organised by the Radio Academy and BBC Music, the event will take place at the British Library in London on September 27th, with the lecture hosted by BBC 6 Music’s Mark Radcliffe.
Eno said: “I’m honoured to be invited to do a talk in the name of John Peel, a man who had a profound effect on my musical life and indeed my becoming a musician at all. His career as a non-musician who altered the course of music has been an inspiration to me and forms the basis of this talk”.
Following on from Iggy Pop’s lecture on free music in a capitalist society last year, the talk will focus on the “ecology of culture”. In other words, demonstrating the ways in which individuals and institutions engaged in culture are connected, including artists, broadcasters, promoters, DJs, fans, managers and lawyers.
All of which is a fine excuse to pop on ‘Another Green World’ or ‘Heroes’ and remember Eno at the peak of his cool before he became a champion knob fiddler for Coldplay.
This year’s event will be broadcast live from 7.00pm on 6 Music as part of a special Sunday schedule and will be filmed for broadcast on BBC Four.
