They’ve already fashioned their own genre: ‘Mountain Pop’, a mixture of acoustic guitar riffs and gentle vocals with an elevating folk feel that’s caught the eye of many large music magazines such as Q and Clash. Norwegian born and now Bristol-based band FirewoodIsland have been rising joyously, and after playing Latitude this weekend on BBC Music’s introducing stage it seems they’re not stopping.

Their track ‘All In Line’ is so catchy, you won’t even realise you’re singing along to it by the time it’s ending. The five-piece band create a smooth and harmonic folk atmosphere throughout with their joint vocals and melodies, yet pick it up during the chorus and bridge with a collective of instruments and vocals to give a deeper impact with a similar quality to that of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zero’s.

The video also is just as impressive and magnetising as the song. Simple yet very clever and unembellished alongside the music, with the band running fragmented throughout the song to an assortment of different backdrops apt with the lyrics and instrumental. I won’t ruin it too much for you, but it’s definitely as cool as the song itself.

It’ simple rhythm of guitar and drums with melodic vocals are something you can imagine singing along to at a festival in a forest within a large crowd, or just listening to alone in the evening sun. Personally, I hope to be doing both.
