Leeds & Reading – Gig & Lig!
The North East has always punched above its weight in terms of creative talent and it’s something Generator is proud to have played a key role in developing and promoting, a recent key indicator that the North East is a hotbed of new artists right now is the fact that four acts on the BBC Introducing stage at Reading and Leeds Festival are from our region.
Coquin Migale, EAT FAST (pictured), Mouses and Avalanche Party will perform at the festivals, which take place across the August Bank Holiday weekend, all of whom have received support fromGenerator through release and funding advice, masterclasses, showcases (all have played our flagship Evolution Emerging event) or recording opportunities.
Coquin Migale who have just released their debut album on Fierce Panda were tipped to Huw Stephens via BBC Introducing by Generator’s Talent Development Manager Bob Allan who said: ‘It’s great to see so many artists from the North East on the festival, Coquin Migale have come a long way since releasing their first single and it’s really exciting in the region at the moment. Nick Roberts (BBC Newcastle) does an amazing job of tipping the best artists to the national shows and festival slots’.
EAT FAST emerged from nowhere this year and have been championed by The Line of Best Fit and Tom Ravenscroft on BBC 6 Music. Teesside’s Mouses have been played several times byHuw Stephens on BBC Radio 1 as well as getting love from Clash Magazine and Avalanche Party will be following up their turbulent UK and European summer shows with some new releases (one of which Generator paired them up with Tarek Musa from Spring King)
Joy Atlas and Ditte Elly from Newcastle were also selected to play the BBC introducing stage atLatitude Festival this year and with bands such as Seeing Hands and Plaza catching the attention of DIY magazine and BBC Radio 1 along with promising artists such as Jake Houlsby, SoShe, A Festival A Parade, High Tide 15:47, Cape Cub, The Pale White and many more emerging from the region, it’s no surprise everyone is talking about the North East right now.
