Month of May Momentum

PRS for Music Foundation has announced its next round of recipients for the Momentum Music Fund, with a total of 13 artists including Oh Wonder, Hawk Eyes and Chelou all set to benefit.

The Gen hasn’t reported much on Momentum so far, only covering every single development to date, so clearly a recap is needed- Managed by PRS for Music Foundation, the Momentum Music Fund awards grants ranging between £5,000-£15,000 using funding from Arts Council England. The whole idea is not to fund emerging artists but artists ready to take the next step, with funds covering a mix of recording and touring activity.

Previous artists who have benefitted from the scheme include the likes of Lonelady and Public Service Broadcasting.

Executive Director of PRS for Music Foundation Vanessa Reed said: “After another very competitive round, it’s great to see we’re receiving really strong applications from pop and urban genres and that they are being selected for support. The breadth of artists making music in the UK is one of the industry’s biggest strengths and we’re proud that Momentum is supporting all kinds of talented artists to take their career to the next level”.

Alongside the aforementioned, this round of funding will benefit the wonderfully named Cosmo Sheldrake (pictured), whose Manager Lewis Varrilly commented: “The Momentum funding comes at a crucial time in Cosmo’s career. With an album on the horizon it’ll make the impossible, possible and alleviate some of the financial stress new artists often encounter. The support from PRS has really spurred us on and opened up a new world of possibilities for his debut LP”.
