North East BIC Boosts Team with Baltic Apprentice

The North East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC) is delighted to welcome a new employee to their marketing team through a programme with leading training provider Baltic Apprenticeships.

Sarah Booth, 20, joined the BIC as a Digital Marketing apprentice in November last year and is already well on the road to the beginning of a successful career as a digital marketer.

Having gained three A-Levels from Sunderland College and a Foundation Diploma in Art & Design from the University of Sunderland, Sarah decided to make use of her creative skills and jump straight into the marketing industry. “I learn better actually doing the job rather than being classroom based,” Sarah explained. “I think it’s a brilliant way to learn and gain valuable experience. I’d much rather be earning a wage while I’m learning.”

Sarah’s 12 month apprenticeship covers STEM subjects including coding and Google Analytics and also focuses on the principles of marketing, both on and offline. The advantage of such an apprenticeship is that as well as the subjects set out in her course Sarah will also get the chance to cover the day-to-day activities that come up within a busy marketing team.

“I’m really enjoying my new role so far and I’m excited for what lies ahead,” Sarah said. “I’m getting involved in a variety of tasks and there’s a really nice atmosphere here. Everyone at the BIC has been very welcoming and I’m getting a lot of support from the marketing team.”

Paul McEldon, chief executive of the North East BIC said: “We are delighted to have Sarah join our team at the BIC. It’s true that young people can offer a fresh perspective and it’s been very beneficial for us to hear her thoughts and have her involved. It’s a fantastic opportunity for us to nurture her talent and provide her with valuable experience, which she will use for the rest of her career.”

Shae Dickman, marketing manager at Baltic Apprenticeships said: “We’re delighted to be working with a fantastic employer like the BIC who are invested in supporting the local economy and changing the futures of young people in the North East. Sarah is an excellent example of the benefits apprentices can bring to a business, we look forward to seeing her grow and develop skills with the support of our apprenticeship training and the team at BIC.”

The 13th annual National Apprenticeship Week is taking place from 3 to 7 February 2020. National Apprenticeship Week is an annual week-long celebration of apprenticeships across England and is a time to recognise and applaud apprenticeship success stories across the country
