Only One Direction for BBC Awards

The first acts performing at this year’s BBC Music Awards have been announced, including some seriously leftfield artists not previously championed by the public service broadcaster.

That’s right- One Direction, Clean Bandit, Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, Calvin Harris and Paloma Faith were all announced as part of an exciting live link up between the BBC’s Radio 1 and Radio 2 Breakfast Shows. Which of course are based in the same building and presumably not all that difficult to link up.

Director of BBC Music Bob Shennan said: “The line-up so far for the BBC Music Awards features some of the world’s most popular performers, and is a clear statement of BBC Music’s ambition, which is to give listeners and viewers the very best in musical entertainment. I know our audiences are in for a musical treat”.

A panel comprised of BBC Music and music journalists will decide on British Artist of the Year and International Artist of the Year. In addition, public voting will determine Song of the Year, with voting details announced in December.

The awards take place on Thursday December 11th at Earl’s Court, London with tickets on-sale now. Chris Evans and Fearne Cotton will inevitably host, with the event broadcast live on BBC One.
