Radio: River Of Stats

Separating the stats from the static, the latest radio RAJAR figures are out, with BBC 6 Musicsetting yet another audience record of 2.342m as listening via digital platforms continues to grow, now accounting for 45.5% of all radio listening.

Radio One’s audience came in at 9.873 million, up 4.4% quarter-on-quarter although down 6.5% year-on-year. but in a world where consumption is king, then accessing ones station of choice via YouTube and iPlayer raises total listening figures to 10.9m.

Radio 1/1Xtra Controller, Ben Cooper, commented: “Reaching 11 million people and putting on a further half a million 10-24 year olds shows that Radio 1 is doing a great job for young listeners,”

He continued: “Although as ever, RAJAR figures are only part of the picture and should be seen alongside the increase to 1.5 million views a day on our YouTube channel and our 8.5 million users on social media”.

Well he would say that, wouldn’t he?

Across the BBC network, market share of all listening was 51.5% in Q3, down from 52.2% last quarter and 53.3% last year. All commercial radio is now on 45.8%, up from 45.2% last quarter and 44.1% last year.

In addition, Bauer’s pulled in 4.471m across its network with the flagship station Absolute hitting 2.643m.

Elsewhere at the Beeb, Radio 3′s non-stop riverboat iShuffle, River of Music provided 12 hours of uninterrupted music commencing with Richard Strauss‘ bone throwing “Also Sprach Zarathustra” and ending with immolation as Classical’s other great Dick, Richard Wagner’s Brunnhilde, burns in Götterdämmerung.
