Sheeran Takes Top Glasto Spotify Spot

Spotify has revealed the Top 5 acts to see the biggest increase in streams after appearing at Glastonbury Festival last weekend, with Ed Sheeran (pictured) taking the top spot.

In addition to holding the current UK Number One album with second LP ‘X’, Sheeran somehow saw a 195% increase in plays on Spotify. Elsewhere, Metallica received a 165% boost- proving that heart warming rendition of ‘Cyanide’ wasn’t entirely lost on everyone.

Friday night headliners Arcade Fire saw streams increase by 148%, with Dolly Parton, arguably the most popular act of the weekend jumping to 95%.

Proof, as if it were needed that Glasto has shifted from counter cultural event to major entertainment destination or what Mick Jagger of all people referred to last year as “the alternative ascot”.

Spotify must be enjoying their extended hiatus from playing industry whipping boy in the midst of what will forever be referred to as the great Google wars- they have also published a Glastonbury playlist of the most popular acts that you can listen to here.

If you didn’t make it to Glasto this year, (or were there but have already forgotten The Kooks set on The Other Stage) at least console yourself with the mere 260 hours of footage broadcast by the BBC, most of which can still be seen here.
